Havening Techniques
Havening Techniques ® is a relatively new and evolving form of psychosensory therapy that has been effective for treating anxiety, phobias and trauma related issues. By using sensory touch to produce an electro-chemical response, Havening helps disrupt the distressing emotions associated with trauma or memories, positively altering the psyche.
Our brain responds to past experiences literally, without the ability to gauge what experiences actually make us unsafe. The way we perceive those experiences at the time then gets stored in our brains. In this way, we carry around our past experiences. Significant traumatic events can produce PTSD symptoms in the present. But some events, that perhaps seem insignificant, get stored in a way that prompts emotions disproportionate to our rational feelings. When we are reminded of these events, they can set off basic emotions such as anger, fear or anxiety. This can happen despite how we perceive them rationally in the present.
Havening techniques ® helps heal those deep seated emotional responses by correcting the way these memories are stored in our neurology. When the emotional impact of those memories are diminished, other symptoms related to that response are diminished or even eliminated.
